Wake Up Call
The “snooze” button is NOT your friend. You slept in again and as you rush to work, the long line of cars in the Starbucks drive-thru is taunting you. As your Gulf Coast guide, we have good news! There are actually places in the Destin area that can give you a caffeine fix just as good and in most cases, half the cost. KaraBoo Bakery in Miramar Beach provides delicious organic coffee with tons of options at a great price along with excellent service. The only problem is they also have incredible pastries baked fresh in the store that you walk past to check out. You aren’t getting out of there without a box full! They are hard to pass up. The Candymaker is often overlooked on Old 98 because of its tricky name. They open at 7am and offer full breakfast, mimosas, and some of the best Italian coffee in town. Bad Ass Coffee Company specializes in Hawaiian Kona Coffee and has been a local favorite for years. They also serve signature lattes and breakfast sandwiches.
There are great options across town in South Walton as well. Sunrise Coffee Company is the newest addition in Gulf Place on 30A in the old Miss Lucille’s shop. They offer specialty coffees along with breakfast wraps, biscuits and pastries. The beach photography on the walls are a cool bonus and gulf access is right across the street! At the same intersection, Café Bolo is a popular coffee stop. With specialty coffees and pastries, it’s the perfect spot to stop while walking on 30A. Outdoor seating is available as well so your dogs can come too! Breakfast omelets and sandwiches are on the menu but the empanadas are a must-have. Bolo offers some unique Brazilian treats that aren’t as common in the area. Further down the road, Café Hibiscus has seating in an outdoor garden where you can drink your coffee or chai lattes. The delicious menu includes Mexican quiche, pancakes and French toast to die for. Rather than contribute to the global success of big brands, check out a local shop and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and friendly service.
