Things We Can’t Wait to Do When Social Distancing is Over
It’s been a weird year so far for sure. None of us were expecting a global pandemic and sheltering at home is new for many. That being said, home is a safe place and the more Covid-19 stops spreading around, the sooner we can get back to normal. Maybe you have a running list of the things you’re eager to do as soon as this is all over. Here are some of the things we can’t wait to do here in Destin, Florida.
Get back on the beach – Sure, we’re lucky to live in a beautiful vacation destination but when they close the beaches, it’s just like everywhere else. When this all started, we could still lay on the beach and relax as long as we were 6 feet away from others. That wasn’t too bad. Now, beaches are closed so no one gets to enjoy them. For many of us locals, getting sun with our toes in the sand listening to the waves is one of the best ways to relieve stress. So it could be pretty handy right now.
Shop at the outlets – Retail therapy is a real thing! Silver Sands Outlet Mall has tons of stores with great discounts and it’s a fun place to go even to kill time. Of course, new clothes don’t matter too much when you’re home 24/7 but it’s still fun to shop. We look forward to being released back into the shopping world and getting great deals.
Get Mexican food – Sure, we can have our own taco nights but it doesn’t compare to El Jalisco in the Destin Commons or Cantina Laredo’s in Grand Boulevard. Thankfully, they’re offering curbside pickup (even margaritas!) so if you’re brave enough to venture out, they’ll take care of you. We tried to find some of their recipes online to recreate but it just wasn’t the same.
Hug our friends – Even if you aren’t a hugger, how much do you miss your friends and family? Everything that bugged your before about your siblings or neighbors just don’t even matter anymore. Perspective sure does change when you can’t hop over to hang out with your best friends. Highway 98 sure will be busy when this is lifted and we’ll all be out visiting each other. A post-quarantine party is definitely somewhere on the calendar!
Send kids back to school – It seems everyone has a newfound appreciation for teachers now. We knew they were amazing but once you’re stuck at home around the clock with kids AND trying to teach them, it’s a bit easy to lose your mind. Teaching isn’t for everyone and kids thrive on routine so it will really be best when they’re back at school with the professionals.
Of course, we’re all praying for good health and things to simmer down. The most important thing is to be safe. In the meantime, we’ll hunker down and dream about being back on the beach or on a Destin vacation. Stay safe!
