Help Our Animal Friends Beat the Heat
With record temperatures along the Emerald Coast lately, the last thing we want to do is go outside for extended lengths of time. Since our four-legged friends don’t always have the luxury of hanging out in the air condition, let’s not forget about them during our heat wave. We all know the danger of leaving them in our car even for a short amount of time. If they are outdoors, make sure they have shade to lay in or an overhang to protect them from direct sun. Refill their water bowls so they can stay hydrated. Even early in the morning, local pets have been having a hard time staying cool. If your pet shows signs of overheating (hyperventilating or excessive panting), cool them off in room temperature water to bring their body temperature down. Give them water to drink and call your local vet if their symptoms do not improve.
If you are new to the Destin, Florida area and need a vet recommendation, 30A Vet in Gulf Place is getting great reviews. Dr. T and her team are very warm and accommodating, as well as affordable. Barry Vet in Miramar Beach is a popular place for boarding and their team is great with first time visits. For emergencies, Emerald Shores Pet Hospital in Santa Rosa Beach is now open. Our pets depend on us so let’s be sure to keep them safe!
