Grayton Beach State Park Named in Top 10 Beaches

Coastal expert Dr. Stephen Leatherman, also known as Dr. Beach, has released his annual Top 10 Beaches list and Grayton Beach has made the list. The Florida International University professor has developed 50 criteria to determine the best beaches including safety, amenities, and cleanliness. Dr. Leatherman is an internationally-known coastal scientist with several published books and hundreds of scientific articles and reports. He has selected the top beaches each year since 1991. Grayton Beach State Park is on the 2016 list along with San Diego’s Coronado Beach, Cape Cod’s Coast Guard Beach, and the winning beach Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve in Hawaii.

Grayton Beach State Park is located on Scenic 30A and offers the sugar white sand and emerald waters we love as well as a rare coastal dune lake. It’s a popular park for camping being a great location for fishing, boating, and swimming. The nearly 2,000 acre park also has hiking trails through coastal forests and two bedroom duplex cabins. Destin area and South Walton beaches are consistently ranked among the most beautiful in the country and we are happy to enjoy them ourselves.
