Enjoy Your Favorite Hobbies on the Coast

kiteboarding

The Emerald Coast has a place in hearts all over the world and for lots of different reasons. Some enjoy the warm, sunny weather and relaxing by the gorgeous beaches. Others come for the championship golf courses that are nestled in peaceful atmospheres around the coast. Most can appreciate the fresh seafood which can be found at a number of fine dining and casual restaurants in Destin, Florida. But there’s even more!

Do you love classic cars? During May 4th-7th, Burning up the Beaches comes through town and stops at our very own Destin Commons. This four day event is a blast for car enthusiasts as well as newcomers. Guests will enjoy a car show, live music, and great food – all for a great cause benefitting The Arc of the Emerald Coast. Accommodations can be made at nearby Destin condos to enjoy the full weekend.

Are you always shopping for antiques? You may not know that the Florida Panhandle has plenty of antique stores for you to fulfill your shopping needs. From old-timey furniture and knickknacks to vintage clothes and beachy mementos, you’re sure to find some treasures. Smith’s Antiques is located in Miramar Beach on Holiday Road and open 7 days a week. Flutterby Antiques is on Main Street and open Monday through Saturday. These are a couple of the popular shops but there are more to be found around town.

If you are into watersports, there are plenty to take up here. Paddle boarding and surfing are favorite pastimes as well as kayaking and skim boarding. Rentals are available all along the beach for jet skis or boards and you can even go for a banana boat ride. If you want to be really adventurous, you can try parasailing or kiteboarding.

MANY people enjoy fishing in the Gulf and Destin is known as “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”. This area is unique among Gulf Coast communities since deep water is within a relatively short distance of the shore. Charter boats are available for group or individual deep sea fishing or you can take a ride out in the Bay enjoying a peaceful time while you wait for your dinner. Red snapper is the area’s signature fish but there’s much more to be caught. If you’re in town during October, you can check out the annual Fishing Rodeo. The daily weigh-ins are sure to get you inspired until you get that great catch yourself.

As if you needed more of a reason to visit, now you have even more! Northwest Florida continues to be a top vacation destination and we locals never take living here for granted.
