Black Bear Bread Company - Your New Daily Stop
The people of Destin Fun are not professional food bloggers. Or even coffee connoisseurs. We write about things happening locally around Destin, Florida and great places to go. But we know a good thing when we see it and Black Bear Bread Company has definitely become a hot spot. So we’re going to tell you why this little shop is going to be your new daily stop.
Before we get into the amazing treats they offer, we have to talk about the décor. When we saw the black bear logo, it already drew us in. A giant black bear photo is in the sitting area with a bear just hanging out. The counter is lined with cool white hexagon tile and topped with all kinds of fresh bread and pastries. There is indoor and outdoor seating available and a comfy wall bench with pillows. If you're out for a run with the dog, bring him to the outside patio and enjoy a coffee or snack.
For breakfast, they have a number of options from huge cinnamon rolls (their best seller) to cheese danishes and bagels. Since it’s in the 30A area, you might expect a pricier menu but these are all reasonably priced. If you want a big breakfast, you can go for the “Grains” (pictured above) which is a bowl big enough for two including poached eggs, quinoa, pecans, avocado, tomato, fresh greens and herbs. The only way to describe it is heavenly. You stare at it just long enough to come to terms with the fact that even though it’s all items you have in your kitchen, you can never make it this perfectly. They also have oatmeal, granola, biscuits & gravy, and breakfast sandwiches. Breakfast is served from 7am-10:30am each day and at 8am on Sundays. Pair your morning meal with a blood orange mimosa!
Lunch is served after 11am with a menu full of delicious ingredients you can’t find at just any lunch stop. Try the Braised Cranberry Beans or the Roast Beef Sandwich that comes with fennel slaw, horseradish, basil, aioli, and gruyere. Each sandwich comes with fresh bread made onsite. Speaking of the bread, this is their biggest attraction. Freshly-baked naturally leavened bread is available with a sample plate for tastings.
Before you take on each day of your Destin vacation, you might need a boost. You can grab some Stumptown coffee to go or take a little break with some Wild Magnolia Kombucha. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, even when there is a packed house. Everyone is all smiles and they are quick with refills as well as stickers for the kids. Black Bear Bread Company is located on Logan Lane in Grayton Beach and will be closing at 3pm during the winter. Let them know if you are a local resident for a discount and grab a punch card to get a free coffee. If you see anyone there with a table covered with one of everything, that’s probably someone from Destin Fun. We can’t get enough!
