5 Things You Must Do with the Family This Summer
Most of us remember looking forward to summer vacations when the whole family got to go to the beach. Why wouldn’t you look forward to fun in the sun with your toes in the sand? The beaches of Destin, Florida are scattered with happy families playing together all summer long. If you are planning a trip to the coast, here are some of our favorite things to do. If you don’t have a trip on the calendar, these might get you to change that.
Grand Boulevard has a number of great spots to enjoy drinks or treats while safely social distancing. Black Bear Bread Company just opened in the ground level of the Hyatt. Enjoy Stumptown Coffee and incredible pastries and the kids can have fun running free throughout Grand Boulevard's lawns. Between Cantina Laredo and Tommy Bahama's is a small park of water fountains kids love to play in. Pick up to-go food at Laredo's and eat outside while the kids cool off.
The Hub 30A is your one-stop destination for great music, food, and fun! Grab a seat on the lawn and take your pick from the surrounding restaurants. From burgers and nachos to ice cream and classic milkshakes, there is a little of everything at the Hub. Throughout the year, they also offer fun events including live concerts, football games on the big screen, and outdoor movies.
Baytowne Wharf is a popular spot for delicious food, great shopping, and fun activities for kids. Along with having a carousel and playground, Baytowne also offers outdoor movies and concerts all summer. On Wednesdays from 7-9pm, you can enjoy live entertainment from local and regional musicians at the Events Plaza Stage. The lineup for May includes Boukou Grove and Luke Langford Band. Each Sunday at 8pm, you can grab a chair or blanket and watch a family favorite movie under the stars.
If you want to get adventurous at the beach, there are a number of watersports to enjoy. Paddleboards, surfboards, and jet skis are all available to rent for the beach. Spend your day ON the water and get close to dolphins, sea turtles, and tons of fish. Take a charter boat out and join a group fishing for the day. Grab your friends and ride on the inflatable banana boat for some laughs.
Don't let another vacation go by without catching a beach sunrise or sunset. We're so eager to get to the beach that we get there early and everyone is worn out by lunch, or else right after breakfast missing the sunrise. Plan at least one day to pull up a beach chair and catch one of the most beautiful views you'll see of the sky's multiple colors seemingly painted over the water. Middle of the day is when the beach is most occupied so catching just the right time will be a peaceful break for the family with a sight you won't forget.
Summer has begun and we're looking forward to getting out of the house and enjoying the sun while safely social distancing. Plan ahead and make the most of your Destin vacation! Make new memories with your family and start your own traditions.
